«Occuuppatiooon!» in Berlin

Neither rain nor the cold kept the Berlin audience from coming. «Tanz im August», Germany’s most important dance festival, kicked off last weekend with sold-out performances, including those by Swiss choreographers Alexandra Bachzetsis and Lea Moro.

One of this year’s key programme items is the major La Ribot retrospective called «Occuuppatiooon!». Spanning the period of 1993 to 2017, it provides a unique insight into the work of this Spanish-Swiss choreographer. Her demanding, six-hour piece «Laughing Hole» from 2006 constituted a first highlight on Saturday. On Sunday, the Barbara Weiss gallery in Berlin opened an exhibition comprising films and installations by the polyvalent artist, which can be seen up to 2 September. Further pieces of hers will be staged in the coming two festival weeks.
