A second call for interactive media projects took place in spring 2018. Pro Helvetia’s new promotion model for interactive media was developed in the context of the “Culture and Business” programme.
The 69 applications received, prove that Swiss interactive creation is reaching a new level of maturity. The candidates demonstrated a large diversity: strong and original concepts, as much on the level of formats – video games or virtual reality – but also regarding aesthetics or modes of production and distribution.
Among the various applications, the jury had to make a rigorous selection of 13 projects that combine the most convincing formal qualities, feasibility and commercial potential.
Three games supported by Pro Helvetia:
«Bämerang» by Aaron Abt and Tim Bürge
«Bämeräng» is a fast paced boomerang duel game, in which 2 players fight for shiny coins in a colourful pixel-art environment. «Bämeräng» was developed during the studies of Aaron Abt and Tim Bürge. After receiving the SGDA Junior Game Award in 2016 and positive feedbacks at several exhibitions and trade fairs, the duo is now planning further development for a potential release of the game.
«Retimed» by Maniax Games
Created in 2017 by Zurich-based studio Maniax Games, «Retimed» is a local multiplayer arena shooter for 2 to 4 players. When a player is in danger, time slows down and a time bubble is created around the player, allowing him time to react and fight back against the deadly projectiles. These time bubbles generate exciting alternations between fast-paced movement and tension-filled slowmotion moments.
«Persephone» by Momo-π
Momo-π is a new game studio formed by Cedric Reinhardt, Guillaume Schneuwly, both informatics engineers based in Bulle (Fribourg) and Rinaldo Wirz, a Swiss artist based in Japan. Their first smartphone game, «Persephone», will be released in summer 2018: it consists of a 2D isometric puzzle game, where death is key to resolve each level.
