Design Duo Diiis at their Studio

Susanne Roser studied object design in Lucerne and subsequently worked for the design studio Kaschkasch in Cologne and Elia Gilli (goldsmith) in Basel. Martina Staub earned a Bachelor’s degree in industrial design in Aarau and then gained professional experience at the design studio Drache & Bär and the event agency Kaluza + Schmid, both in Berlin. In 2015, the two designers set up the product design studio Diiis. Nowadays they cooperate with partners such as Fogia and Souda and exhibit their products at international trade fairs. In 2018, they were nominated for the German Design Award.
Products by the design duo Diiis are playful, plain and adaptable to individual requirements. Pro Helvetia paid the two product designers Susanne Roser and Martina Staub a visit at their studio in Liestal.
Susanne Roser and Martina Staub can be found in their studio by a forest at the edge of Liestal on most days of the week. The two friends have been collaborating since 2015, developing products ranging from jewellery boxes and vases to mirrors and side tables in a process that involves a constant exchange of ideas.
Their approach to design includes a special emphasis on the haptic qualities of the materials they use and on the playful customisation possibilities they endow their creations with. By such means they explicitly seek a rapport with their clients. This is also reflected in the name of their design firm – «Diiis» is the Swiss-German way of saying «Deins», i.e. yours. In the video, Susanne Roser and Martina Staub reveal what they are currently working on and how their design creations come about.
In the context of its new design promotion programme, Pro Helvetia supported Diiis in the development of a prototype for their side table «RUDI».
