Frankfurt Book Fair: new translations

Pro Helvetia is again represented at the Frankfurt Book Fair this year, from 10 to 14 October, in collaboration with the Swiss Booksellers’ and Publishers’ Association (SBVV). The Frankfurt Book Fair is the largest of its kind in the world, attracting thousands of exhibitors from around 100 countries and approximately 300,000 visitors each year in autumn.
In 2018, Pro Helvetia is presenting a whole series of books that have been translated from French into German. The translations, which had their origin in last year’s «Francfort en français» programme in connection with the guest of honour status enjoyed by French-speaking countries at the Fair in 2017, now make books from the French-speaking part of Switzerland accessible to German-speaking readers as well. The series contains works of different genres, including Elisa Shua Dusapin’s successful debut novel «Hiver à Sokcho» («Ein Winter in Sokcho»), the non-fiction «L’Invention de Dieu» («Die Erfindung Gottes: Eine Reise zu den Quellen des Monotheismus») by Thomas Römer, and the first-time rendering into German of Ella Maillart’s text collection «Au pays des Sherpas» («Im Land der Sherpas»), a travel literature classic initially published in 1955.
We wish you an inspiring read!
