Call for Applications

The deadline for applications has passed on 1 December 2020.

Over the past months, as a result of the rapidly changing situation with Covid-19, international groups had to adapt and revise their projects over and over again. Meanwhile, it has become apparent that cultural practitioners will have to and also want to change their ways of working in the medium and long term. Therefore, Pro Helvetia is launching a call for research contributions in the performing arts.

Pro Helvetia supports the research endeavours of independent groups and artists based in Switzerland. Contributions are intended to enable creative professionals to pursue theoretical or artistic questions or to reflect on their working methods and future orientation. Research is not required to result in public presentations or a project. Vice versa, groups or artists whose research is supported are not automatically eligible for work grants. Research may be carried out independently of an institution and must be completed within a period of one year. This regulation does not apply to any preliminary work that needs to be undertaken within the scope of usual production expenditure.

To be eligible for support, independent groups or artists must be regularly active across Switzerland and have already received support from Pro Helvetia. Groups supported under the Cooperative Funding Agreement 2021-2023 are not eligible for research contributions.

Research Contributions

  • Research contributions may cover all costs associated with carrying out the project (fees, travel and transportation expenses, rehearsal room costs, etc.)
  • No co-funding by other public or private donors is required
