As of 2021, the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia is offering a starter workshop on the subject of «diversity processes at cultural organisations».
Cultural institutions and organisations will be learning from recognised diversity experts how to enhance diversity and equality in their organisational and operational structures. In the wake of the «Start Diversity» workshop, participants can expand their associated projects and receive support for the implementation of their diversity strategies.
Who is eligible to apply?
Publicly supported Swiss cultural institutions and organisations from all disciplines who are interested in the subject of diversity and equality at structural level and would like to obtain instruments for the development of diversity strategies within their organisational and operational structures are eligible to apply. Participation is of particular interest for organisations who are planning to enhance their diversity with special emphasis on gender equality and migration society.
The offer is aimed primarily at persons in management positions. A maximum of two persons per institution may take part.
When and where does the workshop take place?
The workshop will take place in Biel/Bienne on 28 June 2021 (whole day) and 29 June 2021 (up to approx. 2 pm). A detailed programme will be sent to all participants roughly two weeks before the event. With their application, applicants agree to take part on the specified dates and to reserve these dates until the names of the selected participants are announced.
What costs will be paid?
The costs for the workshop as well as the costs of transport, day-time meals and accommodation (in the case of a one-way journey of more than 1.5 hours) are assumed by Pro Helvetia.
Application for participation
Cultural institutions and organisations can apply for participation in the «Start Diversity» workshop via www.myprohelvetia.ch. The application deadline is 30 April 2021. The following documentation is to be submitted:

- Motivation for applying;
- Annual report or information on the organisational structure of the institution;
- Past experiences and projects of the institution regarding diversity (if any);
- Rough outline of the institution’s goals regarding diversity.
When and how will a selection by made?
Pro Helvetia will make the selection and communicate its decision by end of May 2021 at the latest.
What support will be provided after the workshop?
After participating at the workshop, cultural institutions can submit a project and apply for additional support of up to CHF 10,000 for diversity processes within their organisation. This financial support is provided explicitly for the further development of diversity strategies. No support is provided for the planning and implementation of individual cultural outreach and arts projects or for projects in an educational context.
If, after participating in «Start Diversity», an institution intends to start a long-term change process on different levels (personnel, programmes, public), participation in the «Tandem diversity» call is possible until 1 September 2021.
