Sc’ööf / Hely / District Five

Sc’ööf

Sc’ööf is an experimental band that has formed its own radical sonic language, which is at once refreshingly adventurous and in-your-face. A strong affection for captivatingly odd grooves and an excessive live energy makes Sc’ööf an exciting bag of surprises.

Their contemplative attitude and their joy for fundamental research is strongly audible in their music and their creative process. Extending this attitude to the questions of social resonance and cultural relevance, the members of Sc’ööf – Amadeus Fries [drums], Christian Zemp [guitar], Elio Amberg [Sax], Noah Arnold [Sax] – have acted as a driving force to form «Club Dänemark» which acts at once as a collective think tank, transdisciplinary event organizer and record label.

Hely

hely.ch

Hely is Lucca Fries (piano) and Jonas Ruther (drums), from Zurich, Switzerland. Listening to their music is a trance inducing experience where multi-directional beats fuse with post-romantic and minimalistic sensibilities. They craft sonic spaces out of staccato piano riffs and ecstatic waves of percussion, last heard on their record ‚Borderland’ that was released on Ronin Rhythm Records. Over a decade of band history with concert tours in Europe, Russia and India provides the foundation for their immersive live performances.

District Five

All in their twenties, the four young men – Xaver Rüegg [bass], Tapiwa Svosve [altosax], Paul Amereller [drums], Vojko Huter [e-guitar] – are currently a top tip on the Swiss jazz scene. Whether flowing calmly along or sweeping weightlessly through the expanses of ambient soundscapes, whether the concentrated energy of free improvisation shatters the song structure or eruptive clusters of sound and hard-edged grooves emphasise the physical aspects of the music – the multi-layered sound art of District Five is compellingly direct and builds up a hypnotic momentum.
