Heidelberger Stückemarkt

29 April – 8 May 2022

Website

The Heidelberger Stückemarkt theatre festival has been presenting avantgarde drama every spring since 1984. New pieces are read and outstanding world premieres from the German-speaking scene are invited for guest performances. This stimulates socially relevant discourse and reflexions on aesthetic trends in the theatre landscape.

Each year, the festival organisers, supported by the society of friends of the Heidelberg theatre and orchestra, invite ten grant recipients to attend performance at the Heidelberger Stückemarkt, discuss the pieces included in the competition with the nominated authors, take part in workshops, get to know German-language theatre practitioners and those from the annually changing guest country, and forge new working relationships.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Pro Helvetia enables three theatre practitioners whose work is centred in Switzerland to participate in the grant programme at the Heidelberger Stückemarkt theatre festival. The call for applications is aimed at artists with an affinity to new drama who work in the fields of stage direction, dramaturgy, playwriting, stage or costume design, who have already gained initial professional experience with theatre projects of their own, and who are working in Switzerland on an ongoing basis either with an institutionalised theatre or in the independent scene. A good knowledge of German is a further precondition for participating in the programme.
