Pro Helvetia aims to foster the diversity of the Swiss dance scene and raise its international appeal. We support the creation of new choreographies and promote guest performances by dancers and groups in linguistic regions of Switzerland other than their own. To help bring Swiss pieces onto stages abroad, we provide contributions towards travel and transport costs in connection with tours. Up-and-coming young dance practitioners can benefit from special promotional tools such as mentoring programmes and residencies. Outreach projects aiming to raise public awareness of contemporary dance also form part of our promotional activities.
Together with municipalities and cantons, Pro Helvetia backs Swiss dance companies that frequently go on tour by means of three-year support agreements. Eleven companies are currently benefiting from this form of support, which enhances their planning security and flexibility. With our contributions to the Swiss dance network Reso, we foster collaboration between different regions in Switzerland and play a part in coordinating and advancing dance promotion in Switzerland. One of Reso’s key projects is «das Tanzfest», held in over 20 towns and cities throughout Switzerland.
We regularly inform international event organisers about Swiss dance productions. We also advise and support foreign festivals wishing to include Swiss productions in their programme, invite foreign programme managers to view productions in Switzerland, and participate in important international platforms such as IETM. Support is also provided for Zeitgenössische Schweizer Tanztage (Swiss Contemporary Dance Days), which attract event organisers from all over the world once every two years. In 2015, together with CORODIS, we launched Sélection suisse en Avignon, a window on Swiss productions at the OFF festival in Avignon.
