Factsheet: Research Contributions Performing Arts

Pro Helvetia supports research by independent companies and artists from Switzerland. Funding is intended to enable applicants to reflect on their work to date and to seek for new ways in terms of producing models or artistic development. Research is not required to result in public presentation or a project. Vice versa, companies or artists whose research is supported are not automatically eligible for contributions to productions. Research may be carried out independently of an institution and must be completed within a period of one year. This regulation does not apply to any preliminary work that needs to be undertaken within the scope of usual production expenditure.

To be eligible for support, Pro Helvetia requires that the independent companies or artists have been touring cross-regionally and/or internationally for several years and receive regular support  from Pro Helvetia. Companies supported under the Cooperative Funding Agreement 2021-2023 are not eligible for research contributions.

  • Research contributions may cover all costs associated with carrying out the project (fees, travel and transportation expenses, rehearsal room costs, etc.)
