Intercultural Society
Switzerland is one of the countries with the highest proportion of people with a migratory background. Migration as a phenomenon is nothing new, but it is nowadays more firmly at the centre of political debate than ever before. Pro Helvetia’s «Intercultural Society» initiative creates a platform for addressing the diversity of an intercultural society. What is the current situation in the Swiss cultural landscape as far as diversity is concerned? What options are there to strengthen intercultural inclusiveness in the Swiss cultural sector? The programme strives to find initial answers and to pinpoint open issues.
The initiative «Intercultural Society», launched by Pro Helvetia for the period of 2017 to 2020, has defined the following objectives:
- Stimulation of a practice-oriented cultural policy debate
- Raising awareness within the cultural sector for intercultural approaches in matters of hiring, programme design and cultural outreach
- Support for pilot projects that address interculturalism in cultural practice and for associated instruments of promotion
