Frequently asked questions
I am Swiss but I live abroad. Can I apply for support?
Pro Helvetia supports artists (individuals and collectives) whose work is focused in Switzerland. If you live abroad, you must demonstrate that you are part of the Swiss art and cultural scene, for example, by regularly working and being present in Switzerland and receiving funding from Switzerland.
I am an architect and would like to submit an application for my project (e.g. exhibition or publication). Am I in the right place with Art+?
Applications for architecture projects are accepted by the Visual Arts Division.
I am an international scientist and am working with a Swiss artist as part of an artistic research project. Can I apply to Pro Helvetia?
Applications for exchanges, research grants and Art+ production grants can only be submitted by Swiss artists. However, as an international scientist, you can take part in the project.
I am an event organiser for an international film festival and would like to submit an application to Pro Helvetia. Is that possible?
Pro Helvetia is not responsible for film funding and therefore does not fund film projects. However, support is available for art projects that use film/video as a medium.
An important factor is the presentation context, i.e. presence through exhibitions or festivals in settings relevant to the disciplines supported by Pro Helvetia. If your previous work was primarily presented in the festival/film context, the respective municipal/cantonal or federal film funding agencies are the point of contact for your project.
I am a scientist at a Swiss higher education institution and am organising a networking event at the intersection of arts and sciences to be held at my institution. Can I submit an application to Pro Helvetia?
A Swiss higher education institution cannot be the only partner. There must be at least one Swiss cultural institution or organisation, or one event organiser from the cultural sector involved in the project. The educational institution must also make a substantial financial contribution.
Pro Helvetia does not contribute to projects that are part of a school or university curriculum or training programme (incl. term papers, dissertations, master’s theses, university scholarships, research projects, etc.) or which take place exclusively in the school or university context.
I am an expert from the industrial and tech sector and would like to apply for support for a hackathon at the intersection of the arts and technology. Can I submit an application to Pro Helvetia?
An expert or organisation from the industrial or tech sector cannot be the only partner. There must be at least one Swiss cultural institution or organisation, or one event organiser from the cultural sector involved in the project. Furthermore, the organisation from the industrial or tech sector must have a research and development department, experience in collaborating with artists and must make a substantial financial contribution to the event costs. Moreover, the event must not be profit-oriented.
I would like to submit a multidisciplinary mediation project. Am I in the right place with Art+?
Neither the conception nor implementation of mediation projects is supported in the Art+ context. Pro Helvetia’s support of multidisciplinary mediation projects takes place in the context of the «Critical Reflection» programme.
I am a musician and would like to consult a sound engineer. Can we submit an application to Art+?
Projects in which scientific and/or social experts perform an exclusively advisory function are not eligible for support. Projects with a primary focus on coaching artists are also not eligible for support.
I would like to organise an award ceremony event. Can we submit an application to Pro Helvetia?
Projects related to prizes and awards and the associated events are not eligible for support.
