Classically trained, Cindy Van Acker joined the Geneva contemporary dance scene in the 1990s. She founded Cie Greffe in 2002. Since then, she has created around thirty pieces under her own name, as well as works for various ballet companies and choreographies for Romeo Castellucci’s productions. Her style covers an extremely unique territory, always starting from a search for a form that suggests the unspeakable. Through her writing, which combines a sober aesthetic, refined movement, meticulous composition and a strong relationship with music, Cindy Van Acker examines the connections between the body, the mind, sound and rhythm with an almost scientific approach, creating pieces that transcend the boundaries between dance, performance and visual art. Her work has earned her numerous awards (including two Swiss Dance Awards and the Officer’s Medal of Arts and Letters). Cindy Van Acker received the Swiss Grand Award for the Performing Arts / Hans Reinhart Ring 2023 and the Leenaards Cultural Award 2023.
