As part of Pro Helvetia’s Swiss Connection UK programme, residencies at four different institutions in the United Kingdom will take place in 2025: HOME Manchester, Brixton House London, Transform Leeds, Take Me Somewhere Glasgow.
The residencies enable participants to expand their network, become familiar with an institution in a specifically British context, and reflect on their own artistic practice with the help of local arts and theatre-related practitioners. Each institution has a different focus in terms of content and genre of work.
This year the artists hosted by Transform and Take Me Somewhere were invited directly by the festivals, as a result of relationships built throughout the Swiss Connection UK programme. The residencies at Brixton House and HOME Manchester were selected via open call. Each residency happens over the course of two weeks.
Selected residencies & artists:
Tiran Willemse in residence with Transform Leeds
Transform is an international festival that nurtures, creates and presents extraordinary, cross disciplinary performance with the power to change the way we see the world. Drawing on the rich cultural diversity of the Leeds City Region, Transform is a global meeting point, where performance drives urgent social agendas and imagines new futures.
This residency will take place prior to the festival this year in late April/early May, embedding Tiran Willemse in the artistic scene of Leeds. Tiran will spend time in the studio at Yorkshire Dance developing a new piece in collaboration with musician, artist, DJ, and producer Nkisi.
Niki Anjes Stalder & Florian Nsingi (Cie Zaidi) in residence with HOME Manchester
HOME works with international and UK artists to produce entertaining, extraordinary experiences, creating an exciting mix of thought-provoking film, art, drama, dance, and festivals. Niki Anjes Stalder & Florian Nsingi (Cie Zaidi) will be in residence at HOME during the Biannual Manchester International Festival in July, which will host a programme of ambitious new work. They will develop their own work in the studio at the same time as experiencing what the festival has to offer & meeting other local and international artists.
Antje Schupp in residence with Take Me Somewhere Glasgow
Take Me Somewhere is a biannual international festival and a year-round sector support organisation that champions Scotland as a place to create exceptional, radical new performance. Antje Schupp’s residency will happen in 2 parts: prior to this year’s festival in August 2025 and during the festival period in October 2025, offering studio time to develop new work in collaboration with international & local artists, as well as an insight into Scotland’s performing arts scene.
Raissa Avilés in residence with Brixton House London
Brixton House is a venue in London which presents and collaborates with voices and perspectives not currently centered in mainstream funded culture. Raissa Avilés will spend time in Autumn 2025 developing new work in the studio, meeting & collaborating with local artists and discovering London’s diverse cultural offerings.
